Read about ... Me and my art
'Hey, Janet, I'm going to be an artist!'
I'd met my niece by chance in the Co-op car park just before Christmas 2014.
She laughed. I was momentarily confused and, to be honest, a bit surprised ...
'I'm serious,' I said.
I couldn't believe it - she laughed again! I tried a second time: 'No, I'm really serious, why're you laughing?'
'Oh, well, you've always been arty, that's all,' she smiled.
Phew! good answer ... 'Well, it's different now.' I said.
That brief exchange tells you quite a bit about me. Art has always been a part of my life. An awareness of it, a natural interest in it, a love of it, a need for it. I've always 'done art' in some form or other, even on the smallest scale. Most of my family and friends are used to receiving bought birthday cards from me enhanced(?) or let's say embellished ... on the inside with a scribble of some flowers, or a load of squirly writing, or a cartoon self-portrait in the corner. I just can't help it.
It had always just been a part of me. But now it's more than that. It's this website. It's what you see in these pages. It's what I'm doing with my life as much as time will allow. Because I realised that this is the only thing that's really good for me. I've tried lots of other things that fill the hours in a day and a night and thought they were the right thing. But no, this is it. This is what I want to do. This is what I'm made for.
And now it really is different. I'm sharing my art, not just with my family and friends, but with the world. And I've never been happier.
