My Heartland Watercolours paintings come straight from the heart and from a place of pure freedom and imagination. As with most, if not all, of what I create, I draw freely without planning ahead, then add pools of rich bold colours to give the drawings a life of their own. 

I named the series The Heartland Watercolours after much soul-searching, as well as *re*searching. I wanted to find a name that felt just right and particularly that conveyed a sense of the title I thought of first, which was actually a German phrase to honour my Austrian mum. I had a few options, but 'Heartland' came very close to what I was thinking of and in the end it seemed to make the decision for me – Heartland was now the name of the imaginary world I'd found inside me just waiting to be revealed.
